The Lagos government has announced an extension of operating hours for markets across the state.
Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, disclosed this in a series of tweets on Sunday.
He attributed the information to a statement signed by Wale Ahmed, the state’s commissioner for local government and community affairs.
Akosile said the decision was made “to further enhance trade and commerce and mitigate the hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
The spokesman added that alternate days of operations between food and non food markets still remain in force.
“The Lagos State Government has extended the hours of operations of both food markets and non food markets. They are now to open at 8am and close at 6pm,” the tweet read.
“In a statement signed by the commissioner for local government and community affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed, the decision of the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, is to further enhance trade and commerce and mitigate the hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Dr Ahmed emphasised that the alternate days of operations still remains in force whereby food markets open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while non food markets open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“He urged all traders to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols for their safety and the citizenry at large.”
