The Islamic body of Ulamahs today endorses the Lagos State Government’s decision to restrict religious gatherings to traceable 20 people or less in all worship centres in the state.
This acceptance was made known today at a meeting held with Prince Olanrewaju Anofiu Elegushi, the Honorable Commissioner for Home Affairs in his office at Alausa.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Muslim Clerics in the state, Sheu Muhzinu Ajagbemokeferi, said that the decision of the State Government could not have come at a better time considering the effect of the Corona Virus pandemic Disease spreading all over the world.
While attesting that the Holy Quran supports the move of the government to avoid the spread of the disease amongst worshippers in Lagos, promises their total support for the State’s suspension of large religious gatherings.
Earlier, the Commissioner had informed the body that, government’s directive is to safeguard the lives of its citizens while all efforts are geared towards stemming the spread of the disease in Lagos.
In his own contribution, Alhaji Abdulahi Jebe Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic religion matters, expressed his appreciation for the visit of the Ulamahs describing it as timely and instructive.
The Honourable Commissioner however expressed satisfaction at the level of compliance by religious bodies so far and hoped that there will be a total prevention of spreading the disease by the time all religious worshippers key into the social distance policy and proper hygiene in the state.
Elegushi further admonished the clerics to always provide verified information to their members as released by government in order to checkmate the spread of fake news which often times leads to fear and panic among residents.
The Commissioner opined that all incoming travellersmustvas a matter of civic obligation isolate themselves for a specified period of 14days for safety purposes, adding that anybody with no serious engagement should observe the stay at home policy to avoid further spread of the disease.
Sheu Ajagbemokeferi assured the Commissioner of their support for further steps of the government to totally eradicate the disease in the state, while praying for Gods mercy at finding a lasting solution to the pandemic.
