At least, two persons were injured on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Ilogbo-Otta, Ogun State, when two rival cult groups went on rampage, in what the police described as a supremacy battle, at Ilogbo-Otta in Ogun State.
In the said theatrical war at Orelope area of the town, members of the feuding cults, according to the police, brandished all sorts of dangerous weapons, which they freely used and attacked anyone on sight, during which, a 45-year-old woman, Modinat Lawal and one Ope Saheed were injured.
This ugly scenario caused a stampede amongst residents, who scampered to safety for fear of falling victims.
However, in the ensuing public disturbance, and to forestall further threats to lives and property, a distress call was put across to the police at Onipanu Division in Otta, following which, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Bamidele Job, mobilized his men, as well as local vigilance members and stormed the scene.
Their presence, Crime Puzzle learnt, threw the hoodlums into disarray and fled, but two amongst the social miscreants were nabbed.
The state police command, in a press release by its spokesman (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), identified the two apprehended culprits as Jamiu Okanlawon, 20 and Oluwaseun Owoeye, 30.
One locally fabricated single barrel pistol, three live cartridges, one dagger casing and assorted charms were some of the items recovered from the suspects, the police stated.
According the PPRO, the two injured persons were taken to hospital by the police, for urgent medical treatments, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation.
“The CP also reiterated that, the war against cultism in the state is a continuous one, and the will not rest until the vices is completely eradicated in all parts of the state”, Oyeyemi declared.
