Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has carpeted the delegates of all the South East States of a big sellout and for dumping all aspirants from the South East at the just concluded party primaries.
Umahi was a Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and he got 37 votes, in the special presidential primaries of the party, which was held between 6-8 of June, 2022.
He said at a meeting with all delegates from the SouthEast, he had challenged them to cast their votes for all aspirants of the party from the SouthEast such that by the time the votes are counted, it would be such that all votes from the SouthEast delegates would count for either one or all candidates from the region.
“It is a shame that our delegates went to Abuja and sold out on all aspirants from the region. I wept both internally and externally at how our people sold out so cheaply. We go about shouting marginalisation but when it mattered most to demonstrate our resolve to make a statement with our votes, we chickened out.” Umahi stated.
The governor who wondered at the continued marginalisation of the Igbo nation in the Nigerian federation said there is no justice and fairness in the nation where only the SouthEast had five states, while other regions had between six and seven states, and where some states would have between 40 and 30 local governments while some states in the Southeast region have only 13 Local governments.
He urged all SouthEasterners to come together and forge a common unity.
