Borno Elders on Thursday said with the death of the first civilian governor of Borno State, Alhaji Mohammed Goni, they have once again been visited by another monumental loss.
The elders in a statement by the Secretary of Borno Elders Forum (BEF), Alhaji Bulama Mali-Gubio said it is known that “every life shall taste of death”, but with the death of Goni, “The Borno Elders Forum is once again visited by another monumental loss.”
The statement read: “The demise of His Excellency, Alhaji Mohammed Goni, the first civilian Governor of Borno state (1979-1983) is yet another irreplaceable loss to Borno and indeed every honest and incorruptible Nigerian. Gov Goni was also a member of the Borno Elders Forum.”
Mali-Gubio said: “Life is transient. All of us should take solace from the fact that Borno has been the hub of great personalities who either left or are leaving great examples for humanity to learn from.
“Goni was certainly one of them. This Forum, therefore wish to condole our Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, The Shehu of Borno, His colleagues, our former Governors, The entire people of Borno and Yobe states (the states he governed) his immediate family and all Nigerians for losing such a great statesman.”
He said: “Gov. Goni had lived a fulfilled life in this temporal life. We wish him a more rewarding life in Al-jannat Firdaus.
May Allah(swt) console his extended family. The Borno Elders Forum will certainly miss him.”
