Apostle (Dr) Oloruntoba Oke, Chairman Ifako-Ijaiye Local Govt

As Nigerians from all walks of life celebrate another edition of the country’s Democracy Day, Friday, June 12, 2020, in line with the Federal Government’s promulgation and declaration, making June 12 a public holiday, and Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Chairman, Ifako-Ijaiye Council Area of Lagos State, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, has described President Muhammad Buhari, as a true leader and democrat, who believes in enthroning lasting good virtues and governance.

Oke, while congratulating Nigerians for enjoying uninterrupted democratic governance, spanning two decades since 1999, lauded  Buhari, for making June 12 a public holiday and conferring Post-humous award of (GCFR) on the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential elections, late MKO Abiola, saying “the president, has demonstrated uncommon leadership by not wishing away the popular choice of the people despite the sadistic annulment of the results by the military junta”.

Also, playing glowing tributes to MKO Abiola and other martyrs including his wife, late Kudirat Abiola, who paid the supreme price and others, incarcerated or sent on exile for mounting pressure on the authorities to validate the latter’s victory, the council chief, described them as “Nigeria’s Symbol of Democracy.”

On the role played by the former Governor of Lagos State and the National Leader of the  All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he said “Asiwaju, remains a major pillar of the Country’s democracy that believes in the practice of transparent, responsive and accountable governance, federalism and the rule of law in totality.” he added.

He further eulogised the uncompromising stance of the political giant in the face of injustice and brazen intimidation to abandon the cause of enthroning democratic governance, which he, vehemently resisted to become a rallying point for all the June 12 Activists and other Democrats, noting that their labour has continued to yield dividends of democracy.

The council boss implored all residents and Nigerians to take personal responsibility to keep safe even as the war on man’s dreaded enemy, COVID-19 Pandemic is being frontally fought.
