Drama as Saudi Arabia returnees refuse to go on quarantine

There was a mild drama on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, following the refusal of 442 Saudi Arabia Returnees to proceed on the mandatory 14 days quarantine.

The Returnees in a video sighted by THE WHISTLER protested against being taken to the FCT Hajj camp for a period of 14 days in line with established COVID-19 protocols.

Some of the returnees were seen to be telling the airport officials that they will not go on quarantine.

A lady was seen in the video shouting at the Airport official, “No, No, No, I will not be quarantined.”

While the drama lasted, some of the Airport officials were seen making frantic efforts to calm the returnees.

The Federal Government through the Chairman, Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, via her twitter handle confirmed the arrival of the returnees, adding that they will proceed on the mandatory 14 days quarantine.

“424 more Nigerians stranded in Saudi have arrived in Abuja. They will proceed on the mandatory 14 days quarantine. We appeal to Nigerians to desist from illegal migration,” she tweeted.

Recall, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced that 802 Nigerians would return from Saudi Arabia this week, of which 384 were received on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the returnees will be quarantined at the FCT Hajj camp for a period of 14 days in line with established COVID-19 protocols and thereafter, the ministry will facilitate their movement to their respective home destinations.
