General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi, says they will work closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure that Super Eagles players invited for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone go through extensive checks at the airport on arrival, Sports Extra reports.
The Eagles are billed to face the Leone Stars at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on March 27, before heading for the second leg at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown four days later.
With the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus, the federation has stated that all precautionary methods would be taken to ensure that players are safe and in the best condition when they arrive the country for the game.
“On the issue of the coronavirus, we are going to work with the Ministry of Health to make sure we get everything under control just like we did with the case of Ebola back in 2018,” Sanusi told Sports Extra
“We are going to give the ministry information concerning the arrival and departure dates of the players and they will mount facilities at the airport so they can be checked.
“We are going to work with the ministry and make sure we leave no stone unturned to make sure that everyone coming into Nigeria is being checked,” he added.
All invited players are expected to have arrived at the training camp on March 23.
The Super Eagles faced DR Congo in an international friendly in 2018 prior to the World Cup despite the scare of Ebola.
