The Edo State Government has approved the sum of N1 billion for the payment of bursaries to indigent students of the state in tertiary institutions across the country.

Governor Monday Okpebholo disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday after a town hall meeting with youths in Benin City.

Okpebholo said the bursary award followed a pledge made to various youth leaders who spoke at the event.

He said at the event, the youth leaders had requested the introduction of a bursary to assist Edo indigenes pursuing higher education in various institutions nationwide.

The governor added that the bursary, designed to ease the financial burden on students and their families, is expected to become an annual program.

Accordibg to him, eligibility for the bursary would be based on proper verification through the applicant’s local government of origin to ensure that only genuine indigenes of the state benefit from the scheme.

“This initiative aligned with my administration’s broader vision to enhance access to quality education, encourage academic excellence, and support the aspirations of Edo youths to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation.

“Further details on application procedures and timelines will be made available by various relevant government agencies,” he said.
