The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa has said education is the bedrock of change and sustainability of any country,
He described education as an instrument of transmitting one’s culture from a generation to another and maintaining social equilibrium.
Odemuyiwa made these known while delivering a paper titled “Ameliorating the Declining Academic Culture Among Secondary School Learners” – A Task For All Stakeholders at the 40th ANCOPSS Annual Congress, Remo 2020, held at Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State.
Odemuyiwa explained that a society’s future depends largely on the quality of its citizens’ Education to preserve their heritage which could be traditional or formal education.
He noted that every child would portray the culture of their background which could transform the child’s learning skills, saying that whatever has been imbibed in the learners would help them to become better persons in life.
He admonished the School administrators to lead by example while imbibing in the learners good norms and values such as honesty, hard work, obedience to constituted authority, punctuality and humility, which he noted could shape behaviors expected in them aside their formal education.
Odemuyiwa further said that these norms and values would also aid their academic culture to avoid examination malpractices, mass failure, cultism, thuggery, hooliganism, unemployment and bad governance.
He emphasized that the essence of education was employability, economic viability and being able to contribute meaningful to the society, noting that if literacy, numeracy, vocational skill within the cognitive and the psycho-motor learning domains could give job, cationed that only culture imbibed behavior would keep the job.
In her address, the All Nigerian Confederation Of Principals Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), President Mrs. Ayodele Womiloju, said the essence of their gathering was to achieve the education hub needed in Ogun State, appreciated the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for repositioning educational standard in the State.
She also hailed him for prompt payment approval of salary and 2018 promotion of teachers, promising to give back to the society by imbibing in the learners the academic culture desired in shaping their lives positively.
