The Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party PDP has urged the ruling party to be more humane in their disposition towards education in the state, noting that it is of paramount importance that children of school age gets qualitative education at all cost coupled with the need to ensure seamless progression from one cadre of learning to another as the 2022/2023 academic year gets started.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary Hon. Hakeem Amode, the party stated that given the efforts of parents in ensuring their ward’s smooth resumption back to school that the government must do much more than merely organizing of cosmetic summit, to adequately ensuring that more children in the state are not thrown out of school due to their incompetence and inability to accommodate them in the state education system.
The statement read in parts: “As the schools resumes the 2022/2023 academic year in Lagos State, The Peoples Democratic Party – PDP wishes families and children in the state a safe and rewarding learning academic year.
“We find it imperative to call out on the ruling APC government on this very critical issues to ensure that more children in the state are not yet again thrown out of school due to government incompetence, and inability of the current elitist government to prepare for their accommodation in the education system.
“We call on the government of All Progressive Congress to do more than organizing a cosmetic summit where issues are only discussed and the capacity to implement them becomes albatross due to lack of necessary attention and cohesion in the delivery of this key components of human capital development to the citizen of Lagos State.
“The APC government should focus on ensuring that every child of school age are encouraged to register to attend schools and provide adequately for the accommodation of pupils who are transiting from primary to secondary education and make sure that those who just concluded the Junior Secondary education are well managed to complete their Senior secondary education.
“Education remains a vital part of quality of life and key component of the human development index and that is why improving the learning outcomes of our children to meet the international acceptable standards is one of the main agenda of His Excellency Dr. AbdulAzeez Olajide Adediran and Her Excellency Funke Akindele.”
The PDP reaffirms it resolution to provide quality and accessible education as symbolized by the popular phrase- BREATH OF FRESH AIR.
Also worried about how the Academic Staff Union Universities – AASU’s strike action is allowed to linger by the APC led Federal government with no end in sight for close to nine months now, the Lagos PDP has urged that this impasse be rested in the interest of the young generations.
“It is important to mention that our party frown at the continue impasse between the government of APC and the Academic Staff Union Universities – ASUU which has resulted in loss of almost a year academic session.
“ We urge them to consider the negative effects this prolong strike would have on the economic and social cultural value systems of our country and resolve the problems quickly in the interest of our young generations.
“The duty to ensure that our children are as productively prepared as any of the best student in the world is one the passion driving our party PDP and our candidates considering the vital position of Lagos State in the political, economic and social cultural nature of the world.” PDP reiterates.
