Eid-el-Fitri: FRSC chief reads riot act against overloading

The Lagos State Sector Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide has warned commercial bus operators against carrying beyond the 50% capacity throughout the festive period.

He said any driver caught flouting the directive, which was meant to assist the government to contain community transmission of COVID-19 pandemic in the country would be arrested and prosecuted for overloading.

Ogungbemide in a statement issued by the Sector’s Public Education Officer Olabisi Sonusi yesterday, said the one week exercise will run from Wednesday July 29, to Saturday August 8, 2020.

He enjoined motorists and commercial bus drivers to ensure total compliance to orders and directives on physical distancing and compulsory use of face masks.

On preparations for the festive period, the Commander said he has directed the deployment of 1,200 regular Marshals, 1,866 Special Marshals 33 patrol vans, two ambulances and four motorbikes to all major corridors to ensure a crash free Eid-el-Fitri celebration.

According to Ogungbemide, the regular and special marshals would be on all the major critical corridors, covering Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, Lagos–Badagry Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and Lekki–Epe Expressway, among other major routes to ensure crash free celebrations.

He advised distressed motorists to engage the Corps through her Toll-Free number 122 in case of emergency.
