Election postponement: We take full responsibility – INEC Chairman

The INEC chief Prof Mahmood Yakubu

The National Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood on Saturday said the postponement of today’s Presidential and National Assembly election was not politically motivated as being assumed in some quarters.

The INEC chairman, briefing stakeholders in Abuja on Saturday said the postponement had nothing to do with politics or security issues.

He said INEC took full responsibility of the postponement of the polls.

Mahmood said the election was postponed as a result of bad weather and poor logistic distribution.

According to him, had the election been allowed to go on, what INEC may have been able to have is a staggered election.

He announced a shift with the Presidential election shifted to February 23, 2019 while the governorship election is also shifted by one week to now hold on March 9, 2019, from March 2, 2019.
