President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday held a crucial and unusual meeting with five former Heads of States and Presidents of Nigeria as a result of the crisis that has engulfed the nation over the violence that is enveloping the country following the killing of some Nigerian youths by men suspected to be men of the Nigerian Army.
At the virtual meeting are former Heads of State, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, as well as Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan. Also in attendance is the Head of the Interim National Government (ING) Chief Ernest Shonekan.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Affairs Mr Femi Adesina said President Muhammadu Buhari, had met with the former leaders to brief them on the security situation in the country, particularly crisis emanating from the #EndSARS protests by Nigerian youths.
He said Buhari met with the formal leaders virtually.
At the meeting are also current heads of security agencies and top government officials.
“The meeting is not unconnected with the crisis engulfing the nation occasioned by soldiers shooting #EndSARS protesters in Lekki area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, with many injured and some dead.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is hosting an unusual meeting (virtual) with former Heads of State, current heads of security agencies and top government officials.”
