An Enugu North Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of 28-year-old Saddam Mohammed for allegedly attempting to murder one Obinna Emmanuel.
The accused and others now at large were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on unlawful attack and attempted murder.
The prosecution, Mr Innocent Ogbuaba, had told the court that on March 11 the accused persons unlawfully attacked the complainant and attempted to kill him with machete at Akwata Market, Enugu.
Ogbuaba said the machete cuts, which caused the complainant serious injury, contravened Section 275 of the Criminal Code Law of Enugu State, 2004.
He also said the matter was reported at the Central Police Station, Enugu where the accused was arrested.
He urged the court to transfer the matter to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for its directive since the matter bordered on murder.
In a ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Nneji Asogwa, ordered the matter to be transferred to the DPP for advice and the accused remanded in Custodial Centre.
Asogwa also said that the accused had the right to apply for bail.
She, however, adjourned the matter to April 26 for hearing.
