Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has given his approval for the club to move for Barcelona’s Phillipe Coutinho, according to Fichajes.net.
The Gunners are currently in fourth place in the Premier League, but Arteta still wants to strengthen his squad when the January window opens.
The North London side are now looking to beat Everton to Coutinho’s signature.
Coutinho is Barca’s highest earner, but has reportedly fallen out of favour with new manager Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi now deems the 29-year-old surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.
Given the perilous financial situation the LaLiga club find themselves in, they are working round the clock to offload the Brazilian midfielder who rarely features.
Barcelona however want club Coutinho eventually leaves for, to pay either part or all of his wages.
And that club could be Arsenal, with Arsenal believing he can help the 29-year-old recapture the kind of form that made him a firm fan favourite during his five-year stay at Liverpool.
