EPL: Why Ronaldo didn’t take penalty against Arsenal – Rangnick reveals after Fernandes’ miss

Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo opted not to take their penalty against Arsenal on Saturday.

Ronaldo had already pulled one back for the Red Devils, after the Gunners scored twice in the first half through Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka.

But after referee Craig Pawson punished Tavares for handball, the 37-year-old left the spot kick for Bruno Fernandes, who slammed his effort off the post.

Granit Xhaka subsequently fired in a crucial third goal for Arsenal.

Speaking after the game, Rangnick said: “I spoke with him after the game and he (Ronaldo) told me he didn’t feel like taking it.

“And that is why he felt it would be better if Bruno took it.”
