Ex-Service Chiefs Ekwe, Abubakar, get Ghana and Chad postings

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama presented Letters of Credence to the High Commissioner-Designate of Nigeria to Ghana, Amb. Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas and Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to Chad, Amb. Sadique Abubakar, on Thursday.

Former Service Chiefs, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe (Navy) and Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (Air Force), both retired have been presented with their letters of credence.

They were both presented were both presented the letters by the  Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama on Thursday.

Ekwe received his letter as High Commissioner-Designate of Nigeria to Ghana, and Abubakar as the Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to Chad.

Their letters and deployment are coming barely a month after colleagues ex-Chiefs General Abayomi Olonisakin (Rtd)- Defence Staff and Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd)- Army Staff received theirs.

Olonisakin was posted  to neighbouring Cameroon, with Buratai deployed to Benin, another neighbouring country.

The appointment of the ex-service chiefs as non-career ambassadors by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 4, 2021 was greeted by wide criticisms.

When the President did not budge, many have had to approach the Senate to reject their nominations, but despite the outrage, the Upper legislative chamber gave them a nod on February 23, 2021.
