Anambra will take on a new glow of excitement as former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo will be sworn in as the governor of the state today.
Soludo was elected in an election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on November 6, 2021.
The transition period which afforded the incoming Chukwuma Soludo administration to set up an 80-member transition committee headed by Oby Ezekwesili. The Committee had on March 5, 2022 submitted its report, giving impression that the Soludo administration which begins effectively today would hit the ground running.
Soludo would be taking over from Willy Obiano, whose tenure effective came to an end on March 16, 2021, haven spent two terms in office. He remained the only governor produced by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), founded by the Igbo nation strongman Chief Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
Soludu would be stepping in with a whole lot of assumptions to continue to build on the successes of his predecessor, who in his valedictory broadcast to people of the state on Wednesday had said he has raised the state to become the fourth economy in the country.
Soludo, an economic bulwark and former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor have said he would be promoting a culture of patronizing locally produced goods, esplaining that his government would be patronizing Innosson Motors Ltd., in its efforts to use deliberate policies of the government to stimulate local economy.
He also said his administration would shop for the best materials available that could be found from anywhere in the country, adding that the focus of his government would be focused on growth and development.
Though he admitted to zeroing down on Anambraians, yet the government would continue to open its doors to professionals who could add value to the administration.
While urging for the support of the people of the state for his administration, Soludo assured Anambraians of his determination to focus on education, healthcare, infrastructure development, agriculture and rural integration among others adding that he is primed at bringing prosperity to the people of the state.
Last Tuesday, the outgoing governor, Willy Obiano had taken Soludo round the state House, as part of the handing over protocols.
Sunrise News wishes the incoming Soludo administration successful tenure as it begins to grapple with the development challenges that has beset the state.
Essentially, the Professor of Economics and a consultant to many world bodies has, by his pronouncements since winning the election, showed that he might not be at home with ostentatious lifestyle and heavily padded administration. First was his decision to have a quiet swearing in ceremony that would involve just a few people, unlike what used to happen in the past when it was usually an occasion for the government in power to show off as the political party that produced the governor. He had also said that immediately after the swearing in ceremony, he would drive straight to Okpoko in Ogbaru local government area, which is one of the worst slums in the country.
He had promised during his electioneering campaign that he would clean up the area and make it habitable. In fact, but for obedience to protocol matters, Soludo had earlier planned to have his swearing in ceremony at Okpoko to drive home the importance he attached to turning the area around.
