Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed his condolences on the death of renowned educationist and politician, Chief Adepoju Akomolafe, who died earlier in the week, aged 104 years.
The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said Ekiti has lost yet another giant in education and school administration who contributed to Ekiti’s status as Fountain of Knowledge.
The deceased served as the first and foundation Principal of Ekiti Parapo College, Ido Ekiti for many years after he had served as a teacher in many schools.
The Governor credited the deceased with working to lay the foundation of Ekiti’s excellence in education and scholarship and turning the schools he worked into centres of excellence.
The Governor said the late Chief Akomolafe moulded and mentored many students in his career as a teacher after where he reached the peak as a Principal with many of his former students now leading lights in various fields of endeavour.
Dr Fayemi who described the late Chief Akomolafe as a role model to students, teachers, school administrators noted that the deceased laboured hard to bequeath the legacies of hard work, integrity, industrial and selflessness to the future generation.
He also described him as an exemplar in politics as a stalwart of the Action Group who served in various capacities including as Chairman of Western Nigeria Finance Corporation.
The State’s Chief Executive said he was not surprised that the late Chief Akomolafe was honoured with a honorary doctorate degree by the Federal University, Oye Ekiti in appreciation of his dedication and contribution to education and moulding of the nation’s manpower.
The Governor said the late Chief Akomolafe was honest, truthful and was ready to make his energy and intellect available for the service of his community, state and country at large. While noting that although the wise counsel of the elder statesman would be sorely missed, the Governor said his legacies have been etched in the memory of the entire people of the state, Nigeria and beyond.
