FAYEMI MOURNS PIONEER EKITI ATTORNEY GENERAL, ESAN’S DEATH

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has mourned the death of legal luminary and pioneer Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the State, Chief Makanjuola Esan who died on Monday, aged 85 years.

Dr Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, described the late Esan as an illustrious Ekiti son, thoroughbred professional and emulative leader who made Ekiti proud as Attorney General in the old Ondo State between 1994 and 1996 and pioneer AG/ CJ when Ekiti State was created in 1996.

The Governor added that the Afao- Ekiti born legal icon was a vibrant leader in the legal sector and a force to reckon with in the academic world as he, alongside some eminent legal scholars, was called to teach post graduate students at the University of Ibadan in 2001.

Dr Fayemi, described the Fourah-Bay College trained Economist turn Lawyer as a pathfinder with passion for excellence having won the Justice Olu Ayoola Prize for all-round best performance in the Faculty of Law of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, and was elevated to the much celebrated rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1995. He also served as a member of the State Judicial Service Commission in Governor Fayemi’s first administration.

“Chief Makanjuola Esan’s death is a huge loss to us in Ekiti. He represented the Ekiti values of brilliance, excellence, integrity and resourcefulness”, Dr Fayemi said.

The Governor who described the late Chief Esan as an exemplar, said the deceased was one of the very best in Ekiti who made great impact in almost every aspect of life. “He remained a source of pride and inspiration to generations after him.”

“Though we shall miss his wise counsel and positive disposition to developmental issues, but we are comforted by the fact he lived a good life and left behind legacies of service and honour.

“Our prayer is that God will rest his soul and grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, the Governor added.
