FCT police debunk rumours of an attack on Abuja community, calls for calm

The FCT Police Command has debunked reports of an attack on the Kuchibena Community of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja by unknown gunmen.

It should be recalled that some news platforms had reported that armed men recently invaded the community and attacked residents leading to the death of about four persons.

Reacting to the report, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh said a preliminary investigation by operatives of the Command revealed that there was no such attack.

In a statement issued and made available to DAILY POST on Thursday by the PPRO, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Babaji Sunday urged residents of the community to stay calm, assuring them of adequate security for the protection of lives and properties in the area.

The statement reads, “Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Babaji Sunday has affirmed that the Kuchibena Community of the FCT is safe for all and there are no killing fields in the Community or anywhere in the Command. The CP gave the affirmation following Police preliminary investigations into a report making the rounds in some sections of the media that “Four persons were gruesomely murdered by suspected cultists in Kuchibena Community of the FCT.

“The CP, while noting that the command has commenced discrete investigations into the report, however, confirmed that as at the time of issuing this statement, no such incident was reported in Kuchibena Community or anywhere in the FCT.

“The CP enjoined members of the public particularly residents of Kuchibena community to be calm and go about their lawful endeavours as the Police is committed to ensuring no crime or threat to their safety thrives. He further beseeched the citizens to promptly report any criminal act to any Police Station nearest to them.

“Meanwhile, the CP has called on media reporters and social media users to always verify their reports before making it public, especially ones capable of causing unnecessary fear and apprehension in the land”.
