The Nigerian Government on Thursday warned the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to stop overheating the polity.
It told the PDP presidential flagbearer: Enough is enough, urging him not to test the will of the government any further.
The government’s position came on the heels of reports that Atiku is allegedly lobbying the United States Government from recognizing President Buhari as the winner of the February 23 presidential election, until the courts determine the petitions before it.
Some posters have found its way to the FCT, proclaiming Atiku as the authentic winner of the presidential election.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at a press briefing in Abuja alleged that Atiku had hired a U.S-based lobbyist to persuade the American government not to recognise the re-election of President Buhari.
The minister described Atiku’s denial of hiring the services of a lobbyist as an afterthought. He said the opposition flagbearer should be content with challenging the result of the poll at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).
“Atiku should accept the fact that he lost the election. He is not the first person to lose and he would not be the last. Afterall President Muhammadu Buhari also lost election three times before winning the fourth. Atiku should put the election behind him and move on,” the Minister said.
Muhammed said the government would not fold its hands and allow the situation to degenerate further.
