Sen. Aisha Dahiru, All Progressives Congress (APC-Adamawa Central Senatorial District), on Thursday in Yola flagged off free distribution of 21 trailer-load of assorted fertilisers to peasant farmers in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commodity consisted of the NPK-20-10-10 assorted fertilisers totalling 360 tonnes.
Dahiru said that the fertilisers were distributed free to assist the peasant and less privileged farmers throughout the state.
“Today, I am flagging off the distribution of 21 trailer-load of assorted fertilisers to peasant and less privileged farmers across Adamawa.
“The distribution of the commodity is a personal donation and free to our farmers, to assist them in this difficult time; it is not a Constituency project.
“For our seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Adamawa Central Senatorial District, each has one trailer-load of 600 bags.
“The other 14 LGAs of Northern and Southern Senatorial Districts, each will have 300 bags per local government,” the senator noted.
According to her, the fertilisers are meant for the peasant farmers and stakeholders including the APC executive committee members in Adamawa.
She said that the commodity would be shared among the 2,640 wards, 258 villages and 28 district heads in the zone.
Dahiru noted that each person at the ward level would get a bag of fertiliser, while each of the village heads would get two bags and each district head would get three bags of the commodity.
She said that a distribution committee of major stakeholders and elders across the 21 local government areas of the state had been constituted to ensure transparency.
Alhaji Mustafa Ahmadu, state Chairman, Amalgamated Union of Farmers Associations, expressed appreciation for the gesture, saying that the commodity would be used for the purpose for which it was meant.
