The central medical store of the malaria control unit, Birin-Kebbi was on Thursday night gutted by fire.
A large consignment of drugs was salvaged from the inferno.
The fire raged for about four hours before it was put off by combined efforts of sympathisers, including Kebbi Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Chief of Staff Government House, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu and Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri.

Also on hand to offer assistance were the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of Security Service, State Commander of the Nigeria Civil Defence, other paramilitary services and men of the fire service.
Bagudu thanked all the Good Samaritans and others who contributed in bringing the inferno under control .
He acknowledged that there was minimal damage to the stored items as large chunk of the goods were retrieved.
However, loss was recorded on other consumable materials, drugs and equipment of an amount yet to be quantified as at the time of filling this report.
