The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has urged the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu, to form a unity government and reach out to his fellow presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi.
Ohanaeze said Tinubu should reach out to Atiku and Obi in the spirit of sportsmanship, adding that the reconciliation should not be by proxies.
The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, made the call in a statement he signed.
He said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged him to reach out to other contestants in the spirit of sportsmanship and as the National healing process should begin with the President-Elect personally reaching out to Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, in person not through proxies.
“We are aware of the tensions and anxieties building up and ranging from the south and spreading to every part of the country due to the poor performance of INEC over the conduct of the 2023 presidential election and as Nigerians have lost confidence in the electoral umpire but there should be room for improvement in the future.
Ndigbo calls for the formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU), these are the ingredients that will soothe nerves and restore peace across the country,” he said.
