The Atlas of Morocco despite their gallant play pattern crashed to by 2-0 to a superior France, who is the defending champions on Wednesday, to set the stage for a classic encounter between France and Argentina in Qatar on Sunday.
While France will meet Argentina in the final of the tournament on Sunday, Morocco will play Croatia for an opportunity of a Bronze on Saturday.
France will be playing for records on Sunday as they would become the third country that has won the World Cup back to back, coming behind Italy and Brazil.
The defending champions opened scoring in just five minutes into the match. Theo Hernandez was in the right place at the right time to get to the rebound inside the box and shot the ball beyond the reach of the Moroccan goal keeper into the middle of the net.
Olivier Giroud blew a great chance on the 17th minute, as his shot from inside the box, was saved by the left pole.
Raphael Varane came close to scoring on 40th minute. He got the ball inside the box from the resulting corner, but his effort went narrowly wide of the right post.
Five minutes later, Hugo Lloris made a sensational save to thwart a huge chance. A rebound fell to Jawad El Yamiq on the edge of the box and he struck towards the bottom left corner, but the goalkeeper dived and punched the ball onto the post and away.
France made it 2-0 on 79th minute. Randal Kolo Muani has the simplest of task to roll the ball into an empty net from close range after a rebound left the keeper stranded.
Morocco however held their head high through the cracker as they showed superior mastery of the game better than the winner France, who for most part of the encounter were under extreme pressure to ward off the rampaging Moroccans who just couldn’t find the back of the net despite several fruitless efforts.
