FRSC: We will arrest any transporters who fail to comply with COVID-19 measures

SUNRISE NEWS, Lagos, July 11,2020 The Federal Road Safety Commission, had said that it will no longer tolerate non compliance on the use of face masks and the flout of other safety measures put in place for transporters during travels.

In line with NCDC, Covid -19 task force directives, that all and sundry should adhere to the minimum requirements for protection from contacting corona virus and to also curtail the spread of the pandemic, it was observed that most people are not complying with the guideline of staying safe. 

In this shade, the Federal Road Safety Commission, National headquarters issued a directive that all commands should embark on aggressive public enlightenment at motor parks and at various fleet operators terminus within areas of jurisdiction. 

In compliance with the above directive, Ikeja Unit Command visited some motor parks and fleet operators terminus, likes of GUO motor park, Iyana Ipaja, God is good  motor park, Iyana Ipaja; CDO at Ikeja and others to assess their level of compliance in accordance with the National task force on Covid –19.

In a chat with Emma Fekoya, who disclosed to Sunrise News Online, that officers and marshals of Ikeja command were out to caution and warn both drivers and passengers, to wear their face mask correctly and wash their hands properly. They were also told to space the sitting arrangement in their vehicles to fall in line with social physical distancing as propagated  by NCDC. 

With the unabated and veracious public enlightenment and sensitisation carried out so far, there has been tremendous  improvement in some parks, fleet operators terminus etc. Where there were shortfalls, they were told to put it right. ACC Fekoya said”.

She disclosed that Interestingly, most of the drivers  and fleet operators are complying and passengers wanting to board were all enlightened of the consequence of non compliance with the lay down rules by NCDC . 

The command in their quest for road safety, inspected all the necessary protective equipments put in place  for their customers, including filling of passenger’s manifest correctly for contact purpose. 

It is of note that the command will not relent on this effort, as it shall constantly interface with the transporters and motorists in general till the end of Covid –19, the Ikeja  FRSC Unit Commander confirmed.
