American ex-police officer Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to 22 and half years in jail for the murder of Black American George Floyd.
Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck some nine long minutes thereby chocking him to death on 25 May 2020.
The former police officer was found guilty on three charges – second- degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.
The prosecution had asked a 30-year jail sentence.
In a brief statement after his sentencing by Judge Peter Cahill, Chauvin expressed his condolences to Floyd’s family and promise to provide more information of interest.
Floyd’s death ignited protests worldwide against racism and police brutality.
