As part of the activities marking the 2022 International Youth Day, African Foundation for Peace and Love Initiative (AFPLI) has concluded plans to stage an interactive seminar holding on the 17th of August, 2022 at TimeON KAIROS polytechnic, Super Bustop, Abule-Egba, Lagos. 326 Lagos-Abeokuta Expy, Abule Egba 102212, Lagos.
The Founding President of AFPLI, Rev Titus Oyeyemi said in a release available to newsmen, said that the theme of this year’s edition is Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages, and in line with our organization’s objective, our topic is “Stand up, Speak out Act”. The seminar is aimed at empowering and increasing the participation of young people in addressing the various socio-economic challenges facing youths and enhancing peaceful co-existence within their immediate community.
He said on August 12 of every year, youths all over the world celebrate the United Nation International Youth Day. It is a day set aside to organize activities to raise awareness about the situation of youths in their country.
According to the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the world needs to leverage the full potential of all generations. Solidarity across generations is key for sustainable development. We must collaborate to foster successful and equitable intergenerational relations and partnerships to ensure “no one is left behind. While intergenerational solidarity and concern for future generations are being called for in tackling global issues
He noted that the engagement and participation of youths are essential to achieving sustainable development goals. The youth in any society forms the pillars and veritable platform for development. They have the potential and opportunities to grow society and make it better if they are ready to engage politically, economically, and community.
Oyeyemi added that AFPLI will want to empower young people to Stand up, speak out and take action to influence positive change. We will be bringing two speakers who will not only motivate, and inspire young people but will share their own experiences in leading positive change not only in Nigeria but across the African continent.
Speakers at the event include The co-founder of the International Climate Change Development Initiative (ICCDI Africa), Olumide Idowu, a media consultant and practicing journalist with BONew, Blessing Oladunjoye, and a Development Journalist and The Programme Coordinator, AFPLI, Adeola Ogunlade.
