Five pastors of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, were reportedly abducted this afternoon by gunmen on their way to the church’s ministers’ conference at the Redemption Camp, Ogun State.
RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, was said to have announced the abduction while preaching at the Ministers’ Conference heralding the annual Holy Ghost Convention on Friday.
The 67th Annual Convention with the theme: And God Said, is scheduled to begin at the camp from the 5th to 11th of August.
The development cast a gloom on the participants who went into torrents of prayers for the release of the pastors from the hands of their captors.
The Ministers Conference, which was known as the solemn assembly was to afford all pastors and ministers in the ministry to pray for the success of the convention which usually draw millions of participants from across the world, and from the 191 countries in which the church has branches.
Adeboye expressed great worry and sadness at the abduction which took place on Thursday along the Ijebu-Ode axis.
“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference?” he asked.
Nigerians on Twitter have launched attacks at him, saying he had been silent all the while about insecurity in the country.
A source from the church said the pastors were coming from Ondo State to the convention when they were abducted.
