Home based care of COVID-19 and rape awareness: CDC Ifako-Ijaiye kick starts intensive advocacy

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has directed all CDCs and CDAs under the Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC) in the state to commence the Sensitization program on intensive Advocacy on transition to home based care of asymptomatic or mildly positve cases of covid-19 in all their communities.

Ifako-Ijaiye LGA was not left out as it Kick-starts the exercise as one of the local government trailblazing the program across all the markets and communities in the council area with the Executive Chairman, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke ably represented by Hon. Femi Afikuyomi JP, Supervisor for Agricultural services and community development, the Legislative Arm, Market leaders, Traditional rulers, residents, All CDAs and CDC Executive led by it’s incumbent Chairman in Ifako-Ijaiye, Pst. Samuel Olu Opajobi at a colourful event which took place across the length and breadth of the local government on Saturday,11 July, 2020.

The intensive Advocacy exercise is meant to educate and inform the good people of Ifako-Ijaiye that there is no more vacancy in all isolated centres and that the local committee has been set up in our local government to handle all cases of Covid-19 with the all the Primary Health Centres in Ogba, College rd, Obawole, Lonlo and Iju Ogundimu fully equipped with competent, well trained staff and equipment required to enable them handle home based treatment in case residents is showing symptoms of covid-19, the committee headed by the CDC Chairman should be contacted on the following numbers: 08023081594,08054651335.

With the daily rise of infected patients, Government is not happy that Residents are no longer observing the laid down guidelines thinking that the pandemic is over. This is far from over as we are the one transmitting the virus from person to person locally and in order to wipe out or curtail these cases, we are required to observe the following guidelines rigidly: Personal hygiene and regular washing of hands, Use of alcohol- based hand sanitizer, Observe physical and social distancing, Regular use of facemask, Avoid attending any gathering of large number of people or any unnecessary gathering at all, Avoid entering any over crowded vehicle or buses and stop stigmatizing all known or unknown treated covid-19 patients.

Similarly, the “Say no to rape” awareness was going on simultaneously to enlighten and sensitize the public on it as an Unacceptable behaviour and blemish to our collective humanity and dignity as a people as a nation. Parents and guardians were sensitized on how to take proper care of the girlchild and on how not to take or admit silence as a consent but also speak out about any unruly experience from any of the opposite sex while reporting immediately to the appropriate authority.

The Advocacy team campaign train moved through Iju Ishaga market, Ndike Market, Haruna Market, Abeokuta/ Yaya Abatan junction, Ijaiye Ogba road and Ibari street for the exercise.

Other attendees are: Council leader,Hon.Abiodun Akinola, Iyaloja General, Mrs Doyin Coker – Ogunbiyi, Traditional rulers, Community leaders ,NURTW and Members of the public.
