A man simply identified as Baba Gbemi living on Fashola Street, Papa Ashafa, in the Agege suburb of Lagos on Tuesday killed himself and wife over allegation of infidelity against the woman.
The man, middle aged commercial motorcycle operator was said to have ingested a common insecticide brand called Sniper, and forced same on his wife, who was a petty trader.
The incident, according to a neighbor who preferred anonymity, occurred shortly after the couple, who lived in a room in the house, returned from a family event in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
“They attended a burial ceremony in Abeokuta. The husband came home before the wife. He had parked his motorcycle and sat briefly in front the house.
He later went to purchase something and retired inside their room. After a while the wife arrived and a short while later, we started hearing a loud commotion from their room. But because we are used to their fight, we didn’t quickly went in to intervene.
“When the noise became intense, people rushed to their door, unfortunately the door was locked from behind. Neighbors made all efforts to pull the door down and we met the couple writhing in pain,” the neighbour said.
It was discovered that Baba Gbemi had drank sniper and he also administered it forcefully on his wife.
They were rushed to hospital where Baba Gbemi was confirmed brought in dead, while the wife is currently undergoing treatment.
The couple, our correspondent lernt, has two children, a girl and a boy. The girl is in one of the higher institutions of learning while the boy is16 years old secondary school student.
Already the case has been reported at Alabo Police Station and the family of deceased had been contacted.
