The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has said Christians need not acquire guns to defend themselves.
Adeboye said he needed to clarify his position as he has seen many misrepresentation of his earlier sermon, giving the impression that he was calling on Christians to arm themselves with guns.
“I never asked Christians to go and get guns to defend themselves, but I am confident that they won’t permit you anyway, but you don’t need guns to defend yourselves. You only need the fire of God to fall. Samson never held any AK 47, and he was able to destroy the Philistines with the jawbone of an ass,” Adeboye who conducted the July Thanksgiving Service from his Prayer Mountain called Mount Camel, at Ifewara, Osun State said.
He said what Christians needed was the power of God to ward of evil and men who of recent have made attacking churches their new occupation.
“All that we want is that God would prove himself against those who are killing his children and we did not need to adopt violence to do that because God is able to keep his own.”
In his sermon titled: “Meant for the top,” Pastor Adeboye said for anyone desiring to make it to the top, must desire to stay close to God and make him his forte.
He said though there are spaces at the top for anyone who desires to get there, but it requires diligence, wisdom, knowledge and purity, because God is holy.
Adeboye who reached from 1Sam 2:6-8 said life is like a mountain or an inverted pyramid, where the chances get narrower as one attempted to move ahead and get to the very top in life.
He said though Jesus left behind 500 brethren, he had 12 disciples, out of which he chose three who became members if his inner circle, and out of the three, he chose one, John, whom he called the “the beloved”.
He urged his children to continue to thirst for God and to seek the path of righteousness, without which making it to the top would be a burden.
