During a ceremony held at NECA House, Ikeja on Thursday, Governor Sanwo-Olu named the Estate in honor of the late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, recognizing his significant contributions to the state’s development. At the same event, certificates were presented to the inaugural beneficiaries of the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (LagosHOMS), who had completed their 10-year payment obligations and were now fully owning the properties allocated to them by the Lagos State Mortgage Board.
Governor Sanwo-Olu named the Ilupeju LagosHOMS Housing project in honor of the late Oba Mufutau Olatunji Hamzat, a revered elder statesman and political leader in Lagos, who was also the father of the Deputy Governor and the current Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat.
Prince Hamzat commended the Governor for this noble gesture, noting that it aligns with his late father’s ideals and legacy. He also praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his thoughtfulness and dedication to preserving the memory of Lagos State’s pioneering figures.
“This gesture is a testament to our father’s enduring impact on Lagos State. His selfless contributions and visionary leadership have left an indelible mark, and we are thrilled to see his legacy honored in this way,” Prince Hamzat said.
The naming of the Estate is widely regarded as a befitting tribute to enduring legacy of the late Oba Hamzat, and a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to acknowledging the significant contributions of personalities who have played pivotal roles in shaping the state’s history.
By paying tribute to ‘Baba Hamzat’ in this manner, Governor Sanwo-Olu has exemplified his dedication to preserving the memory of the founding fathers of modern Lagos State and ensuring that their legacies remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.
LagosHOMS is a welfare-oriented initiative launched by the Lagos State Government to provide relief and support to low- and middle-income families, empowering them to realize their aspirations of becoming homeowners.
