Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, on Saturday broke former Chelsea star Victor Moses’ transfer record after joining Al Hilal from Al Shabab for €5.9 million (about NGN2.7 billion) ib Saturday.
Ighalo’s move to Al Hilal means the former Manchester United star surpassed the previous record of Moses, another player above 30 years old, who transferred to Spartak Moscow from Chelsea for €5 million in the summer of 2021.
Ighalo, writing on his verified Instagram account, said: “Thank You @AlShababSaudiFC it was a Pleasure.”
The 32-year-old will remain at Al Hilal until June 2023.
Ighalo’s €23.3 million transfer to Changchun Yatai was the most expensive, featuring a Nigerian player overall until Kelechi Iheanacho’s €27.7 million move to Leicester City from Manchester City.
Iheanacho’s record was later owned by Victor Osimhen, who moved from Lille to Napoli for about €70 million.
Meanwhile, Al Shabab had blocked Ighalo from representing Nigeria at the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.
