Former Lagos State House of Assembly lawmaker Hon. Dayo Saka Fafunmi has promised to give quality representation to the people of Ifako-Ijaiye if permitted by the delegates to fly the party’s flag and eventually win the House of Representatives election on February 25, 2023.
Fafunmi, in a chat with select media executives said he decided to give the House of Representatives a shot after consultation with his political associates, followers and leaders, who motivated him to get the form and throw his hat into the ring.
A three- term time lawmaker who gave quality representation to Ifako-Ijaiye constituency I in the Lagos House of Assembly, Fafunmi said time has come for quality representation, especially for the people of the area.
“I must say the time has come for Ifako-Ijaiye to take its pride of place as the mother council and be adequately represented at the green chamber, I am determined to bring all my years of legislative experience to bear to give our federal constituency the kind of attention it deserves at the federal level,” Fafunmi said.
Fafunmi, a graduate of electrical electronics and law said for so long Ifako-Ijaiye have remained a back bencher in national affairs, because of the quality of materials that have gone to represent the constituency, adding that things would begin to change if he is given the opportunity to represent his people.
He said because the federal constituency which comprised of Ifako-Ijaiye and Ojokoro LCDA, is one of the largest in the state, he intends to have at least two constituency offices, one in each of the councils where members of his constituency could come and lodge any complaint they have and for regular meetings with their representative.
He said for a long time, Ojokoro LCDA have taken repeated shots at the exalted office, an opportunity he said they have exerted and maximized to the detriment of the mother council.
He said as one born and bred in Ifako-Ijaiye, he would give the right attention to all constituents of the federal constituency and ensure that projects meant for the constituency are well spread out to reflect the different tendencies of the constituency.
Fafunmi who said his aspiration has the support of the grassroots and political leaders especially in Ifako-Ijaiye local government said time has come for the council to take its rightful and pride of place in the scheme of things.
Listing his achievements for his constituency which included free bus rides to pupils of public primary and secondary schools in the local government, confectionary and fashion vocational centre, and ICT training for out of school students, among others, Fafunmi said he is prepared to do more and would certainly do more for the two councils which would be his constituencies if elected as member House of Representatives.
“I have been tried and tested. I am qualified and have what it takes. I have done it before and will do much more if given the opportunity to represent the Ifako-Ijaiye federal constituency in the 2023 general elections.”
He said though he had focused more on the people, especially the masses in the past, he will beside affecting the masses, also take more than a passing interest in the political class, especially political leaders and elders of the party.
“I have severally been accused of neglecting the political leaders and elders but this time around, I would give more attention to my political family who have been with me through thick and thin, and through whose magnanimity, I have been able to attain the political pedestal that I was opportune to in the past.”
He said he remained committed to the mandate of his leader and mentor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose major achievements remained the building of generations of leaders who have continued to hold their own in all spheres and have remained committed to the ideals of progressive politics, which has been the hallmark of the Bola Tinubu school of politics.
