Imo Attacks: IGP orders clampdown on IPOB members

Nigeria’s number one police officer, Muhammed Adamu, has ordered policed officers to be deal ruthlessly with members of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB).

Speaking on Tuesday during his visit to the Imo Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Service, the police boss ordered his men to go after members of the secessionist group.

He also condemned the attacks on the two facilities, saying that the federal government will not allow individuals or groups to cause chaos and violence in the country.

The Inspector-General of Police ordered police officers to use their weapons against the IPOB and ESN members and crush them to the last man.

He noted that all those responsible for the attacks in Imo State will not be given any hiding place.

The Police chief insisted that IPOB members were responsible for the Imo jailbreak and the razing of the state police command.

Adamu, who urged officers to use their rifles against the IPOB members, said that “police will not allow these criminals to succeed.”

It will be recalled that Sunrise.ng had reported how gunmen in the early hours of Monday, attacked the Imo State Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Prison, razed their operational vehicles, and freed about 2,000 inmates.

After the attacks, the IGP in a statement on Monday claimed that the members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are responsible for the attack.

Though IPOB had also denied any involvement or complicity in the attack, again, while speaking after arriving in Imo State on Tuesday, IGP Adamu declared that the criminals responsible for the attack will not be allowed any hiding place.

He said; “police will not allow these criminals to succeed.”
