Imo State Chairman of the Committee on COVID-19, Prof. Maurice Iwu on Sunday disclosed that the state has not recorded any single case of the virus saying that his committee would use all available arsenal and resources to prevent possible infiltration of the deadly disease into the state.
He added that the committee is engaging the support of faith based organisations and local government councils to accomplish its mission stressing that 80per cent of its efforts is on prevention.
Prof. Iwu whose committee was inaugurated two week ago, said that with 3-sub committees, the body had evolved strategic plans to fight the disease to finish.
Briefing newsmen after one day crucial meeting of the committee in Owerri, the former INEC chairman said that with a state of the art facilities already in place at the COVID-19 Isolution Centre, said that part of the strategic plans fashioned to tackle the virus are been reviewed.
“We have been meeting and reaching out to the council areas for interaction and we want to fight this virus as a war and we want to use every arsenal to prosecute it and we will make maximum use of the media to succeed. “
Iwu who declined comment on the financial strength of his committee, said the committee is not operating on a fixed budget.
He however called for support from both the government and well meaning Nigerians to enable his committee realise its mission.
“It is a war that must be fought from all fronts and that is why I am appealing to everybody including our in-laws to come to our aid in the interest of humanity.”
