INEC Issues Notice For Lagos East, Kosofe Bye-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Lagos State on Monday served a notice of election in respect of bye-elections for Lagos East Senatorial district and Kosofe State house of Assembly Constituency 2.

The notices are served at the Lagos East Senatorial district and Kosofe State house of Assembly Constituency, the Resident Electoral Commission, Sam Olumekun said.’

He said this was in line with section (30)3 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which states, that “in the case of a bye-election , the Commission shall not later than 14 days before the date appointed for the election publish a notice stating the date of the election.”

Sources told our reporter that INEC decided to publish the notice at the respective INEC offices in Kosofe and Lagos East well ahead for the stakeholders to kick-start activities.

The notice was pasted on Monday at the commission’s office in the two constituencies.

It would be recalled that the Commission has fixed October 31st 2020 for both elections.

The bye-elections would be conducted to fix the vacuums created by the demise of the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial district, Senator Adebayo Oshinowo and member representing Kosofe 2, Hon.Tunde Buraimoh.

Daily Trust reports that following the release of time-table by INEC, aspirants have upped their game to secure their party’s ticket.

As at last count, no fewer than 10 aspirants for Lagos East have indicated interest in each of the two major political parties – APC and the PDP.
