The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Yakub Mahmood has assured Nigerians that it would continue to deepen and to deploy technology in electoral process in Nigeria.
The INEC chief spoke on Wednesday at a strategic interactive stakeholders meeting with online publishers at the Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
Explaining INEC’s position especially on the ongoing debate over direct and indirect party primaries, Mahmood said the agency is poised to comply with the law anytime it is signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the agency has deployed a number of technological innovations which has confirmed that deployment technology is the way to go as it has proven mightily successful in the reduction of human errors.
He said technology deployment is the way to meet the set objectives of a free, fair and credible election in the country.
Addressing the theme: “strengthening INEC/Media partnership for the consolidation for free, fair, credible and inclusive elections”, said technology wi help deepen technology as it has eased the assignment for which INEC is saddled.
Mahmood said with 84 million voters on its register, Nigeria runs the second biggest democratic system outside the United States of America, revealing that Anambra election with 2.4 million voters which was concluded on November 6,. 2021is bigger than two African elections put together.
Mamood said INEC is determined to serve Nigerians well in spite of its challenges and deliver free, fair, and credible elections across the country and especially during the general elections.
He said Nigerian election is bigger than 15 nation’s put together and INEC has been saddled with so many other responsibilities that over time has.made it emerge as electoral management agency.
Mahmood said Nigerians is yet see the best of BVAS, as it would be the game changer to make votes count and remove issues of electoral fraud.
