Isese Day: Lagos joins Oyo, declares Monday work free

Lagos State Government joined it’s sister state, Oyo in declaring Monday as a work free day for all workers to mark the Isese Day 2023, which would be marked in all Yoruba speaking states and communities on Sunday.

Oyo State, in a circular signed by the Governor Seyi Makinde, not only declared Monday a holiday, but directed that August 20, every year would be recognised as Isese Day in Oyo State.

In a circular signed by the Lagos State Head of service Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the governor said the holiday is to commemorate this year 2023 Isese Day.

The Isese Day, has been set aside in Lagos to celebrate the indigenous Yoruba traditional religion and culture as well as the preservation of Yoruba heritage.

He stated further that the declaration of Work Free Day by Governor Sanwo-Olu is reaffirmation of his “commitment to continue to provide necessary ensure inclusivity of all sections of the society and support traditional institutions in the State with a view to promoting our indigenous culture and tradition while preserving our heritage”.

The circular announced Tuesday, 22nd August at 8a.m. prompt as resumption of work for all State workers.
