Human rights activist, Dele Farotimi said he has never lied against anyone in his quest for a better Nigeria.

He said this on Tuesday after his release from a correctional centre in Ekiti State upon meeting his bail conditions.

Farotimi is being prosecuted by the police for allegedly defaming senior lawyer, Afe Babalola in his book, “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System”.

Last Friday, a magistrate’s court in Ekiti State granted the defendant bail in the sum of N30 million with two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner.

He was also ordered to submit his passport photograph to the court and refrain from granting media interviews.

In a short video after his release, Farotimi expressed gratitude to Nigerians for speaking up for him.

He also thanked his associates for being present at his release from detention.

“The thing I want all of you to know is that I am not unmindful of the sacrifices you have made to be here today,” the lawyer said while addressing a handful of associates present.

“It is not ever an easy journey when you are fighting evil,” Farotimi added.

“Years ago when I started this walk, God told me and I heard it very clearly. He says once have I spoken and twice have I heard that power belongs to Him.

“He says the truth is enouh. It is the only weapon by which you can slay the monster called Nigeria. The truth. Nothing else.

“In my public advocacy, my fight and my wars against this evil empire that we all live in, I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know, I’ll say I don’t know.”
