Kaduna, Kogi Govs, SANs storm Supreme Court as Naira change suit resumes

The Governors of Kaduna and Kogi States Malam Nasir el-Rufai, and Yahaya Bello were physically present in the Supreme Court this morning as the suit on deadline for the new currency begins at the Supreme Court.

Sunrise reports that the Supreme Court is filled to the brim, this morning with senior legal luminaries, Senior Advocates of Nigeria and other top officials of government who are eager to know the pronouncements of the nation’s apex court.

Governments of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara had originated a suit on February 8, 2023, urging the Supreme Court to grant an order extending the deadline for the change of currency fixed by the Central Bank of Nigeria for February 10, 2023.

These governors have since been joined by the governments of Ekiti, Ondo, Niger, Kano, as well as Ogun States and more are expected to join.

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had accused some elements in the government of targeting his candidacy. Other presidential candidates have since joined in condemning the implementation of the policy which they claimed is bringing more pain, anguish and frustration to the Nigerians.
