Kalu sentenced to 12 years over N7.2bn fraud

Former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Muhammed Idris passed the ruling after finding the politician guilty of a 37 count charge of fraud and corruption.

Kalu who is presently 59, may spend the next decade in prison with hope of regaining his freedom at age 71 years.

Kalu’s company, Slok Nigeria Limited, which he used to defraud Abia State was also ordered to be wound up and forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Also, his aide, Jones Ude, who was the Director Of Finance in the Abia State House during Uzor Kalu’s regime was also sentenced to five year jail term.

The presiding Judge, Idris described money laundering offence as crime against humanity.
