Kano election: Police impose movement restriction, ban local security outfits

The Police in Kano State have said no State security outfit like Vigilante, KAROTA, will be allowed at the polling units during Saturday’s supplementary elections.

CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel stated this in a statement issued to DAILY POST by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled to conduct the supplementary election on Saturday, 15th April, 2023, in two hundred and six (206) polling units across the State in Fagge and Tudun Wada / Doguwa House of Representatives Constituencies and fourteen State House of Assembly Constituencies.

He said the Command, in conjunction with other security agencies, had concluded all necessary security arrangements for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

According to the statement, “Movement of Motor Vehicles, Tricycles and Motorcycles are strictly restricted from midnight of 12 am to 5 pm on Election Day, except those on essential services.

No State Security Outfit like Vigilante, KAROTA, and others. will be allowed at the polling units.

“Carrying weapons of any kind are not allowed and only eligible voters will be allowed at the polling units.”

The Commissioner of Police noted that the security agencies would continue to be “apolitical, impartial, neutral, professional, steadfast, civil, and firm in the conduct of their duties.”
