Sends warm love to Prince Harry and Megane
Barely 24 hours after the death of Queen Elizabeth of England, her son and successor King Charles III on Friday afternoon addressed his subjects for the first time in his new role, promising that he would continue on the tradition of selfless service which hallmarked his mother’s over seven decades of public life.
He spoke on Friday, at the forecourt of the Cathedral of St Paul, where a memorial was held in honour of Her Majesty, who died on Thursday.
Extolling the memory of his late mother the Majesty, the new King said he would always hold fond memory of the late Queen who towered above all and whose sense of duty and responsibility was uncommon.
He said the late Majesty have a very unique way of balancing her responsibilities as a mother, the Head of government in England, the Head Commonwealth.
At about 6pm West African time, King Charles III admitted to the personal loss the death of his mother was to him, saying her death signified the end of an era, that would go in as the golden era of the British Empire.
He said with the demise of his mother, the Majesty, he would be assuming his new role, with high sense of responsibility, advancing the course of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the about 16 nations where the Queen had remained the Head of Government.
The new Monarch also announced his heir, the new Prince of Wales, a title he carried according to him, for over five decades.
He also extended warm regards to Prince Harry and his wife, Megane who relinquished their royal responsibilities for a more Spartan life. He said they will continue to have a special place in his heart.
He praised Britons and others from across the world for their show of love throughout the period of mourning, adding that the death would further unite the modern England.
Meanwhile the new Prime Minister of United Kingdom Liz Truss, on Friday paid official visit to the new King Charles III at the Buckingham Palace.
The acceptance of the election of the new Prime Minister as well as the voluntary resignation of the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson remained the Queen’s last official assignment before she went to Balmoral Castle where her doctors started treating her failing health, until she breath her last o Thursday evening at the age of 96.
Queen Elizabeth, who was succeeded her father in 1952, at the age of 21. Besides United Kingdom, the Queen was the Head of Government of 16 other nations, and was the Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, which only in 1945 transformed from being an association of former British colonies, to now accommodated any other nations that freely wanted to belong to the Commonwealth of nations.
