Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has commended the first civilian governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande for the strong bond of friendship he forged with Kwara State.
He gave the commendation during a courtesy call he paid to Jakande’s home at Ilupeju Estate yesterday. He urged the widow, Alhaja Sikirat Abimbola and her children “to take solace that Jakande lived a pan-Nigerian life, building bridges of understanding across the country”.
Governor Abdulrasaq recalled LKJ’s long standing relationship with Kwara through his friend, Chief Josiah Sunday Olawoyin of Offa which began before independence and blossomed until Chief Olawoyin’s long struggle for the creation of Kwara State materialised.
Lagos State Speaker Mudasiru Obasa who was also at the deceased’s home poured encomiums on the memories and legacies of the late civilian governor, he stated: “Alhaji Lateef Jakande has served humanity wonderfully well in all capacities. His selflessness and excellent service to humanity will always remain fresh on our minds. We pray Almighty Allah grant him rest, Amen”.
Members of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, also came to commiserate with the family.
They included Mr Wale Edun, Senator Tony Adefuye, Chief Busura Alebiosu, Dr Yomi Finnih.
Others were Chief (Mrs.) Kemi Nelson, Omoba Murphy Adetoro, Otunba Henry Ajomale and Cardinal James Odunmbaku. Also there were Chief M.A Taiwo, Chief Seriki Bamu, Prince Oluwa and former deputy governor Mrs Idiat Adebule.
