A Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a labourer, Abu Joel, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing two aluminum window frames
Joel, 28, who resides in Developmental Estate, Gwarinpa Abuja, pleaded guilty to theft and begged the court for leniency.
The Judge, Gambo Garba, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30,000 and charged him to desist from crime.
Garba ordered the convict to replace the aluminum window frame, which he damaged or he should pay its market value.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the convict went with criminal intent into Dantata Estate, Gwarinpa, a construction site, without permission of the property owner.
Ogada said the convict stole two aluminum window frames valued at N180,000, and broke same into pieces, but he was apprehended by security guards while trying to escape with the stolen frames, and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor, said that during police investigation, the convict made a confessional statement, admitting the crime. The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 327 and 288 of the Penal Code.
