Lagos announces 3 weeks closure of Yaba road as work begins on Red rail line

As preliminary works begin on the construction of the Red line Light Rail, the Lagos State Government has announced a three weeks closure of the Yaba Overpass from Tuesday 9, to Tuesday 23 of this month.

A statement signed by the Commissioner of Transportation Dr Frederic Oladeinde said this is necessary to commence the soil testing around Yaba area as part of the multi-modal transportation master plan with reference to the Red Line rail system.

Oladeinde, said the lane closure was necessary to commence soil testing along Muritala Mohammed Way, Ojuelegba Road (around Tejuosho), as part of the Traffic Management Plan to actualize the Phase 1 of the Lagos Rapid Mass Transit (LRMT) Red line, from Oyingbo to Agbado.

He advised motorists to utilize the main carriageway during the temporary closure even as he assured that traffic management personnel will be on ground to direct traffic to minimize inconveniences.

The Commissioner of Transportation implores residents of the State, especially motorists that ply these corridors to be patient and cooperate with the interventions being put in place by the government to bring lasting solutions to transportation challenges in the State.
